The highly anticipated world title fight between former world champion Jerwin Ancajas and World Boxing Association (WBA) world bantamweight champion Takuma Inoue will have to wait a little longer.

The scheduled battle date was set for November 15, 2023 in Japan but, on Saturday, October 28,Takuma Inoue(18-1, 4 KOs) from Zama, Kanagawa, Japan revealed on his Twitter profile, X account, that he had injured his ribs in training.

Even though Jerwin Ancajas (33-3-2, 22 KOs) from Panabo, Davao del Norte, Philippines has already spent months preparing in the United States, the injury compels Ohashi Promotions, the bout’s organizer, to postpone it indefinitely.

“Due to my injury during practice, the performance on November 15th has been postponed. We apologize to all the boxing fans who have been looking forward to it, the Ancajas camp, the fighters who were scheduled to compete at the same event, and everyone involved. Right now, I would like to try to recover from my injury first,” said Takuma Inoue,27, in his post on X.

“Takuma Inoue suffered a fractured rib in sparring,” said promoter Hideyuki Ohashi on Friday in media reports.

“The November 15th event has been postponed,” added Hideyuki Ohashi.

After losing his International Boxing Federation (IBF) world super flyweight title to Argentinean Fernando Daniel Martinez in October 2022, Jerwin Ancajas was scheduled to make his debut against a world champion on November 15.

The entire undercard has been canceled and once Inoue’s rib injury has healed, the co-feature bout between Artem Dalakian, the WBA flyweight champion, and challenger Seigo Yuri Akui will take place.

Jerwin Ancajas recently defeated Wilner Soto via technical knockout in the fifth round in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in a competitive fight. Ancajas had not fought since Martinez had defeated him.

It’s yet unknown when the event will take place this year and how long it will be postponed. Takuma Inoue is the brother of Naoya Inoue, the former undisputed bantamweight champion.

It has been revealed that Naoya Inoue will defend his junior featherweight championships at the WBC and WBO against undisputed WBA and IBF champion Marlon Tapales. Their undisputed bout is scheduled for December 26 at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena.
