Benavidez Defeats Andrade, Calls Out Canelo For Super Middleweight Showdown

LAS VEGAS — The bout between David Benavidez and Demetrius Andrade  took place on November 25 at the Las Vegas’ Michelob Ultra Arena.

Andrade (32-1, 19 KOs) from Rhode Island, U.S. is a former two-time world champion. His fighting approach hasn’t always resulted in thrilling bouts. Andrade suffered his first loss to Benavidez on November 25.

Two-time WBC super middleweight champion Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs) from Arizona, U.S won the match against Demetrius Andrade.  

“I solidified myself as the dominant performer I am. Just give me the fight that we all wanna see,” said Benavidez in media reports.

“Who wants to see me versus Canelo? I’m gonna be the super-middleweight champion of the world, three-time world champion,” he added.

Following the win, Benavidez called out Canelo Álvarez, the undefeated champion lightweight. Maintaining his status as Álvarez’s mandatory WBC opponent, Benavidez has long shown a desire to share the titles with one of the best boxers in the world and a rising star.

After a difficult beginning, Benavidez took control of the battle. By throwing quick jabs and timing his attacks perfectly, Andrade took command of the fight early on.

Although Benavidez stepped up his offensive in the third round, it was in the fourth that the battle began to swing in his favor. Late in the round, Benavidez floored Andrade with a strong right hand after stalking the fighter and landing punches, including an uppercut that helped him up.

In the fifth and sixth rounds, Benavidez kept up his dominant performance. He relentlessly attacked Andrade who looked injured, but he stood his ground.

Up to the corner stoppage, Benavidez was ahead according to the scores of all three judges.

“I’m gonna be a legend by the time my time is done,” said Benavidez. 

“I don’t care who they keep putting in front of me. I’m gonna keep knocking them down,” he added.

“David Benavidez gives a very humble, honest answer at his post-fight press conference after stopping Demetrius Andrade: I don’t think I’ve done enough to make it on the pound-for-pound list, but I will definitely get there,” said Michael Benson an online boxing editor in his post on X.
