DUBLIN — Australian Skye Nicolson, who just recorded her first professional stoppage, is vying for a date with undefeated seven-division champion Amanda Serrano.

In Dublin, Lucy Wildheart(10-3, 4 KO’s) was dominated by the WBC interim featherweight belt champion Skye Nicolson(9-0, 1 KO) until her team from Sweden threw in the towel halfway through the ninth round.

Nicolson proceeded as usual, circling the ring, standing wide, and bending away to further hinder Wildheart’s attempt to reach her.

“That’s going to keep happening; the better the opponent, the better Skye Nicolson you’re going to get. I want to keep stepping through better opponents, take 50-50 fights and I’ll keep showing my level,”  said Nicolson in media reports.

“I want people to know I’m a real contender in the featherweight division and I made the statement I wanted to make tonight,” she added.

The fight’s pattern was set, and Wildheart had the primary responsibility to change it. In the fifth, Nicolson pulled away a little bit, and the extra time gave her the opportunity to find a consistent home for her straight left hand. It was impossible for Wildheart to dodge the shots and she was unable to change her strategy.

Nicolson was more than happy with how the fight was going, despite the fact that it wasn’t much of a show. Nicolson launched a flush left hand early in the ninth round, bringing her attack into a second phase.

She prepared a precise set of follow up shots. Blood spurted out of Wildheart’s nose, and her corner dropped the towel. The time was round nine, 1.11.

In order to earn a world title in her tenth bout, Nicolson, 28, wants to be made Serrano’s mandatory challenger and take on the Puerto Rican early next year. However, Katie Taylor, who defeated Chantelle Cameron in the main event of the card, can yet drop back to face Serrano.

“Honestly it would be a dream come true, an honour to share the ring with her. That’s the fight I want … I feel I’m ready and should be next in line,” said Nicolson.

“I want to be world champion in my 10th fight. I have to beat the best and she’s the best,” she continued.
