Antonio Tarver, a commentator, claims that if Terence Crawford and Jaron “Boots” Ennis faced off, Terence Crawford would triumph to establish who is superior.

Crawford is anticipated to retire shortly, and should he defeat Canelo Alvarez, he may do so. Prior to that, on August 3, he must contend with WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov.

Crawford’s chances of facing Canelo could be destroyed if he loses to Madrimov. Crawford will probably try to win the other titles at 154 in order to settle the debate if he does prevail.

In Tarver’s opinion, Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs), the former world champion in three divisions, looked better when he defeated David Avanesyan two years prior than when he performed against ‘Boot’ Ennis on July 13. For the record, on December 10, 2022, Crawford was knocked out in the sixth round; nevertheless, ‘Boots’ (32-0, 29 KOs) stopped Avanesyan a round earlier in the fifth. Compared to Crawford, 34, who faced Avanesyan two years prior, Boots appeared younger and more powerful.

Avanesyan did hit Ennis a lot, but he always responded back. Avanesyan hit Crawford as well, but Crawford defended himself with greater vigor than Boots did. It was an alternative strategy.

Ennis was not thinking about avoiding being hit like Crawford was; instead, he was attempting to get Avanesyan out of there. Crawford shoved and pushed a lot to prevent Avanesyan from packing him in. Crawford should have received a warning from the referee regarding the pushing, but I didn’t see one.

Ennis, in contrast to Crawford, enjoyed the inside sparring and defeated Avanesyan with uppercuts and body blows.

“He’s got a bright future. Right now, he’s firing on all cylinders,” said Antonio Tarver in media reports.

“I thought he looked great outside of a few instances where he lost focus, but that’s to be expected when a guy is fighting at home,” added Tarver.

Ennis remained concentrated. Instead of focusing his concentration on avoiding getting hit by Avanesyan, he was attempting to knock him out. He had to take some shots in order to reach his aim of stopping Avanesyan faster than Crawford did, so he was eager to score the halt.
