Trump Endorses Michael Alfonso in Wisconsin’s 7th District Race
Trump backs the son-in-law of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy in a bid to represent Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald Trump endorsed Michael Alfonso, a first-time Republican candidate for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, calling him a “MAGA Warrior” who would advance the president’s agenda. Trump tied the endorsement to a well-known political family. Alfonso is the son-in-law of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Fox News anchor Rachel Campos-Duffy.
The backing gives Alfonso, a newcomer to elective office, immediate national visibility in a sprawling northern Wisconsin district long held by Republicans. Trump listed economic growth, tax cuts, border security and Second Amendment protection among the priorities he expects the candidate to champion.
“Michael Alfonso has been a WINNER all of his life, comes from a truly spectacular family, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Representative from Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District — HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” Trump said in the post.
Here is the full post on Truth Social: “It is my Great Honor to endorse MAGA Warrior, Michael Alfonso, a young “STAR” who is running to represent the incredible people of Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District. Michael is the son-in-law of our GREAT Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, and the wonderful Rachel Campos-Duffy, of FoxNews, one of the most popular (and talented!) anchors in all of Television. His family has been fierce advocates for our Movement to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! As your next Congressman, Michael will work tirelessly to Grow our Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Champion our Amazing Farmers and Ranchers, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Advance American Energy DOMINANCE, Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Support our Military/Veterans, Safeguard our Elections, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment. Michael Alfonso has been a WINNER all of his life, comes from a truly spectacular family, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Representative from Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District — HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” on July 15, 2026 at 1:01 PM ET.
This is the first message released by Trump today. On average, Trump produces roughly 17 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025.
A presidential endorsement in a Republican-leaning district can effectively decide the primary. That raises the stakes for rival candidates who lack the president’s blessing. The winner would join a narrow House majority where every seat shapes the balance of power. Voters in the 7th District, a rural and heavily agricultural region, would gain a first-term lawmaker aligned closely with the White House.
The endorsement matters to the average reader because House members write and vote on the tax, energy and border laws that touch household budgets and local economies. A representative tightly bound to the administration’s priorities signals how the district’s federal votes would fall on those questions.
Has this happened before? This has happened before. Trump has issued hundreds of congressional endorsements across two campaign cycles, and candidates carrying his backing have frequently prevailed in Republican primaries, reshaping the party’s House and Senate ranks in his image.
The next decision rests with primary voters in Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, though a date for that contest has not been announced.
Wisconsin has long been a fiercely contested battleground, as happened before. In the 2000 presidential race, Al Gore carried the state by roughly 5,700 votes. In 2016, Trump won it by about 22,700 votes, the first Republican presidential victory there since 1984 (see britannica.com). Those razor-thin margins turned a Midwestern state into a national bellwether, and the candidates who read its rural districts correctly went on to claim the White House.
The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 104 of his 515 posts over the last 30 days focused on elections.
