Donald Trump shared an image-only post to his 12.9 million followers on Truth Social on July 20, 2026 at 10:57 AM ET.

The post carried a single photograph and no accompanying text, one of many wordless entries the president has published in recent weeks. In the last 30 days, 52 of 488 Trump posts fell under the “Image Only Posts” topic, according to a Zenger analysis of Truth Social activity.

The timing draws attention because it lands as Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, moves to monetize the platform’s traffic. The company announced plans to launch “Truth API,” a paid data feed that promises the fastest real-time access to posts from the platform’s highest-ranking accounts, according to time.com. A company spokesperson said the licensed service will deliver posts from Truth Social’s 10 most influential accounts to customers faster than a standard push notification, according to time.com.

“Markets already move on Truth Social posts,” Kevin McGurn, Trump Media’s interim chief executive officer, said in a statement. “As adoption grows, we expect Truth API to become a meaningful, ongoing source of revenue for the company, creating lasting value for shareholders.”

The stakes reach beyond a single photograph. Trump owns about 41% of the publicly traded Trump Media through a revocable trust, so faster access to his posts stands to benefit the president’s family directly, according to time.com. Wall Street trading firms that pay for early delivery could gain an edge, while ordinary investors relying on standard notifications would lag behind.

The president’s posts have repeatedly swung markets. In April 2025, hours before Trump announced a 90-day pause on most of his tariffs, he posted that it was a “GREAT TIME TO BUY,” and his posts on the U.S.-Iran conflict have pushed oil prices up and down, according to time.com. That history explains why milliseconds of advance notice carry commercial value.

For the average U.S. reader, the development signals that a sitting president’s social-media output has become a tradable commodity. A retail investor checking a brokerage app would receive market-moving statements after institutions that purchase the feed, a gap that could shape prices before individuals react.

Has this happened before? Selling faster market data is common practice, but tying it to a sitting president’s personal account is new. Agencies across the U.S. government, including the Treasury Department and the Labor Department, share financial and economic data through application programming interfaces, according to time.com. What differs here is that the source is the president himself, and the beneficiary is a company he largely owns.

The next decision rests with regulators and lawmakers weighing whether the arrangement raises legal concerns. Several Democratic members of Congress have called for scrutiny, though no agency has announced a formal review and no date for any decision has been set. The company said Truth API will reach customers next month.

Trump Media’s fortunes have swung sharply since it went public, as happened before with other politically charged listings. The stock debuted on the Nasdaq in March 2024 and closed at $57.99 per share, then tumbled into the single digits as the company lost more than $1 billion over two years, according to time.com. Truth Social itself was Trump’s answer to his Twitter lockout after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, and the company has since pursued cryptocurrency and nuclear fusion ventures. Each pivot has tested whether a media brand built around one figure can sustain a public company’s expectations.
