Trump touts nearly $10 billion in Pennsylvania defense investments at McCormick summit
Trump the president said the projects will create more than 4,000 jobs building ships, submarines and weapons across the Commonwealth, anchored by a $2.5 billion General Dynamics submarine deal in Philadelphia.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald Trump announced nearly $10 billion in new defense industrial base investments in Pennsylvania.
Here is the full post on truthsocial: “Trump Announces Nearly $10 Billion in Defense Industrial Base Investments in Pennsylvania at McCormick’s Summit: https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2026/07/15/trump-announces-nearly-10-billion-in-defense-industrial-base-investments-in-pennsylvania-at-mccormicks-summit/”
Trump made the announcement at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, during Sen. Dave McCormick’s Defense and Innovation Summit according to breitbart. He joined McCormick, a Republican elected in 2024, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and top defense, banking and tech executives for a roundtable event. The investments will create more than 4,000 jobs, Trump said according to breitbart.
“This afternoon, we’re announcing nearly $10 billion of new investments in our defense industrial base, right here in the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and these investments will create more than 4,000 jobs,” Trump said according to breitbart.
The package leads with a $2.5 billion agreement between General Dynamics and Rhoades Industries supporting Navy submarine construction in Philadelphia according to breitbart. New ship orders for the National Security Multi-Mission Vessel are estimated to support more than 2,000 jobs, with program costs valued at $1.5 billion. Day & Zimmermann received a $2.3 billion contract to provide operations, maintenance and modernization for the Hawthorne Army Depot in Nevada, delivered from its Philadelphia operations.
The stakes fall heavily on Pennsylvania workers and shipyards, who stand to gain contracts for ships, submarines, trucks and weapons. Defense spending in Pennsylvania has jumped about 20 to 25 percent since Trump returned to the presidency, and he projected the figure would reach roughly $19 billion to $20 billion including Wednesday’s announcement according to breitbart. The Department of Defense frames such industrial base spending as central to sustaining shipbuilding capacity according to war.gov.
For the average American, the projects translate into manufacturing jobs and a broader push to rebuild domestic weapons production. Trump said his administration has overseen $19.2 trillion in investments into the United States since January 2025 according to breitbart.
Has this happened before? This is not the first Pennsylvania investment summit Trump has headlined. Last July, he attended McCormick’s Energy and Innovation Summit at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where officials announced $92 billion in investment into the Keystone State according to breitbart. The Wednesday defense event followed that same summit format used to court private capital.
The next decision points rest with the defense contractors and the Navy that must finalize and execute the contracts. A specific date for completing the submarine and vessel agreements has not been announced.
Presidents have long used Pennsylvania as a stage for defense and industrial pledges, as happened before. The state’s shipyards trace back to the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, established in 1801, which built warships for more than 150 years before the Navy closed it in 1996. During World War II, the yard employed roughly 40,000 workers and produced dozens of vessels. Its closure cost thousands of jobs and reshaped the region’s economy, a reminder of how federal defense decisions ripple through the Commonwealth.
