This is Trump’s 4th message released today. On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025.
The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 28 of his 449 posts over the last 30 days focused on the economy.
The Export-Import Bank, the official export credit agency of the United States, finances and insures foreign purchases of American goods when private lenders decline the risk. The agency named JetZero, Beta Technologies and K2 Space among the companies it is backing, spanning aviation, electric aircraft and space infrastructure. Trump amplified a message from the agency’s own account by mentioning the source (see truthsocial), which laid out the profitability claim.
The stakes reach beyond Washington ledgers. Exporters and their suppliers benefit when the bank underwrites deals that private banks avoid. Critics have long argued the agency concentrates its support among a small set of large manufacturers. When the bank turns a profit, the Treasury collects the surplus, and the burden on taxpayers falls.
The Export-Import Bank has been a recurring flashpoint in Washington. Its charter lapsed in mid-2015 amid opposition from lawmakers who called it corporate welfare, and the agency then spent years unable to approve deals above $10 million because it lacked a board quorum. Congress restored a full quorum in 2019, which let the bank resume large-scale lending.
The agency has weathered these fights before, and this is not the first time a president has claimed to revive it. Congress renewed the bank’s charter through 2026 in a bipartisan vote, ending years of uncertainty over its future.
The next decisions on the bank’s direction rest with its board and with Congress, which must again weigh reauthorization as the current charter approaches expiration. A date for the next reauthorization vote has not been announced.
The bank’s fortunes have swung with the political winds before, as happened during the New Deal. Franklin Roosevelt created the Export-Import Bank by executive order in February 1934 to finance trade with the Soviet Union, and Congress made it a permanent agency in 1945. Over the following decades the bank survived repeated efforts to abolish it, and each president who defended it discovered that its charter, not its balance sheet, decided its survival.
