Trump Endorses McGuire in Virginia’s 5th District Primary

Trump backs Republican Rep. John McGuire for re-election, citing his Navy SEAL service and MAGA record, as Virginia's Aug. 4 primary approaches.

WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald J. Trump endorsed Representative John McGuire, the first-term Republican who holds Virginia’s 5th Congressional District, ahead of the state’s primary.

McGuire, a former U.S. Navy SEAL, represents more than 775,000 residents across rural southern and central Virginia, according to house.gov. Trump framed the endorsement around McGuire’s military background and loyalty to the movement.

“John McGuire has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election,” Trump wrote, calling the congressman “MAGA all the way” and “an America First Warrior.”

The backing lands days before voters go to the polls, an increasingly common move as Trump seeks to shape Republican primaries in districts he carried by wide margins.
