— Donald J. Trump called on Representative Ilhan Omar to resign from Congress, accusing the Minnesota Democrat of fraud for allegedly using a name other than her birth name to win election and take the oath of office.

Trump claimed Omar’s legal name is Ilhan Nur Said Elmi. He said her surname matches that of a man he identified as her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, whom Trump said she married. Trump wrote that Omar had “openly admitted to FRAUD” and demanded that House Speaker Mike Johnson be informed that her seat had been “conceded.”

Here is the full post on truthsocial: “It was just revealed that Ilhan Omar‘s name is not Ilhan Omar, the one she used to get elected and sworn into Congress, but rather, it’s an entirely different name, Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, and that her last name is, incredibly, also the exact name of her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the person they said she married and had children with. When asked whether or not she married her brother, she said, “Not to my knowledge.” In other words, she somehow didn’t know? Therefore, because she used a fake name to be sworn in, I assume she must IMMEDIATELY resign from Congress. Please inform the Speaker of the House of Representatives, James Michael Johnson, that the Dumocrat Party has just conceded her seat. Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, her real name, has openly admitted to FRAUD, and she will not be legally allowed to be a Member of this August Body from this point forth. Thank you for your attention to this matter! Trump” on October 22, 2026 at 11:20 PM ET.

This is Trump’s 88th message released today, and the last post was 3 hours ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 10 of his 603 posts over the last 30 days classified as Crime posts.

Omar represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, which includes Minneapolis and surrounding suburbs, according to omar.house.gov. She took office in January 2019, becoming the first African refugee to serve in Congress and one of the first two Muslim-American women elected to the House, according to omar.house.gov.

Born in Somalia, Omar and her family fled the country’s civil war when she was eight years old, according to omar.house.gov. The family spent four years in a refugee camp in Kenya before arriving in the United States in the 1990s. She moved to Minneapolis with her family in 1997, according to omar.house.gov.

Omar serves on the House Budget Committee and the House Education and Workforce Committee, according to omar.house.gov. She holds the position of Deputy Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and Vice Chair of the Medicare For All Caucus, according to omar.house.gov.

Trump’s post did not cite any official legal findings, court rulings, or government investigations to support his claims about Omar’s identity. The post referred to House Speaker James Michael Johnson by his full name and used the term “Dumocrat Party” in place of the Democratic Party. Trump signed the message “Trump” and framed his demand as an assumption that Omar “must IMMEDIATELY resign.”

Omar has not been charged with or convicted of any crime related to the allegations Trump described in his post. No formal proceedings to expel or unseat Omar have been announced by House leadership.

The U.S. Constitution grants each chamber of Congress the authority to expel a member with a two-thirds vote. Such action requires a resolution and vote by the full House rather than a presidential demand. A date for any such proceeding has not been set.

President Trump is the author of The Art of the Deal, Think Like a Billionaire, and Think Big. Analyst and Trump supporter Rod Martin points to The Art of the Deal, Trump's 1987 book, as an explanation of his deal-making philosophy: making big announcements, pivoting often in public statements and, Martin says, ultimately getting what he wanted all along. Critics contend that Trump's books were published decades ago or were aimed at making money, not shedding light. "Generally," Martin said, "critics don't read The Art of the Deal. If they did, they would understand."
