Trump backs Army veteran and former prosecutor Eric Flores to challenge Democratic incumbent Vicente Gonzalez eight days before the November general election.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald J. Trump endorsed Eric Flores, a Republican candidate for Texas’ 34th Congressional District, calling him an “America First Patriot” eight days before the general election.
Trump described Flores as a U.S. Army veteran and former criminal prosecutor who would fight to cut taxes, promote domestic energy production, and protect the Second Amendment if elected to Congress. The endorsement positions Flores as Trump’s preferred challenger to Vicente Gonzalez, the Democratic incumbent, in a South Texas border district.
The endorsement carries particular weight with early voting in Texas already underway. The early voting period began on October 19 and ends on October 30, according to swampthevoteusa.com/texas/. Election Day is November 3, 2026.

President Trump is the author of The Art of the Deal, Think Like a Billionaire, and Think Big. Analyst and Trump supporter Rod Martin points to The Art of the Deal, Trump's 1987 book, as an explanation of his deal-making philosophy: making big announcements, pivoting often in public statements and, Martin says, ultimately getting what he wanted all along. Critics contend that Trump's books were published decades ago or were aimed at making money, not shedding light. "Generally," Martin said, "critics don't read The Art of the Deal. If they did, they would understand."
