Trump touts declassified FBI notes showing gaps in Flynn interview records
Trump shares a report on newly declassified handwritten agent notes that differ from the official FD-302 used to prosecute his first national security adviser, Michael Flynn.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald J. Trump pointed to newly declassified FBI notes that he said expose discrepancies between agents’ handwritten records and the official report used to prosecute Michael Flynn, his first national security adviser.
The handwritten notes from former Special Agents Peter Strzok and Joe Pientka differ from the bureau’s official documents used to criminally prosecute Flynn nearly a decade ago, according to Just the News. The White House Government Transparency Task Force released the records.

The contemporaneous notes show differences between what the agents wrote when they interviewed Flynn on Jan. 24, 2017, and what appeared in the official typed summary, known as an FD-302, according to Just the News. Agents entered that summary into the FBI system more than 20 days later, and it later underpinned his prosecution, according to justthenews.
Flynn faced charges in federal court in Washington, D.C., in November 2017 for one count of false statements to FBI agents investigating allegations of Russia n interference in the 2016 election, according to Just the News. Prosecutors said Flynn “falsely stated and represented” to agents that he did not ask Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak to refrain from escalating the situation in response to sanctions the United States had imposed against Russia, according to justthenews.
Pientka’s handwritten notes contain a notation apparently attributed to Flynn about his conversation with Kislyak: “Hey, don’t do anything,” according to Just the News. The FBI summary report stated that Flynn recalled making four or five calls the day he talked with the Russia n diplomat from a Christmas vacation spot in the Dominican Republic, but Strzok’s notes quoted Flynn as saying, “If so, don’t remember. If so, busy place to make phone calls,” according to justthenews.
Flynn initially pleaded guilty to the charges, then later filed to withdraw his plea under new representation, according to Just the News. His new lawyer,Sidney Powell, argued that Strzok and Lisa Page, an FBI lawyer who did not attend the interview, had altered the FD-302 that formed the basis for the charges against her client, according to justthenews.
