WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald J. Trump ordered the restart of a shuttered California offshore oil pipeline, invoking the Defense Production Act to feed West Coast military bases.
The order directs Sable Offshore Corp.. to restore its Santa Ynez Unit and pipeline, adding roughly 50,000 barrels of oil per day and replacing nearly 1.5 million barrels of foreign crude each month, according to energy.gov. The facility can lift California’s in-state oil production by 15 percent, the department said.
“Today’s order will strengthen America’s oil supply and restore a pipeline system vital to our national security and defense, ensuring that West Coast military installations have the reliable energy critical to military readiness,” said Chris Wright, the U.S. Secretary of Energy.
