— Donald J. Trump posted a statement from Greg Wischer, an official at the United States Department of the Interior, describing cleanup and repair work at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington. Trump relayed the account on Truth Social, attributing it directly to Wischer.

Here is the full post on truthsocial: “From Greg Wischer at the United States Department of the Interior: “I visited the Reflecting Pool this morning, and pictures are included below of the pool reflecting and the American Flag Blue color. As you can tell, many of the photos posted in the New York Times articles were taken after the largest fireworks show in history—which had launch points alongside the pool—deposited significant debris in the pool. The Reflecting Pool has been partially refilled to allow National Park Service staff and contractors to flush the pool’s piping system for the first time in more than a decade. After years of neglect by previous administrations, more than half of the 58 water supply ports were so clogged that they were deemed nonfunctioning. This work is ongoing. We waited until after July 4th to do. Coming out great! The National Park Service has also, for the second time, cleaned the granite, pressure washed the sidewalk, and removed several hazardous trees next to the Reflecting Pool. Will be opening in a few weeks. Will be a beauty. NO VANDALS PLEASE.”” on August 28, 2026 at 11:27 AM ET.

This is Trump’s 11th message released today, and the last post was 2 minutes ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 54 of his 610 posts over the last 30 days classified as Domestic Policy posts.

Gregory Wischer serves as the Interior Department’s deputy assistant secretary for land and minerals management, a post he was picked to fill in February 2025, according to projects.propublica. He founded the critical minerals consulting firm Dei Gratia Minerals and holds nonresident fellowships tied to the Colorado School of Mines and the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, according to newlinesinstitute. His financial disclosure also lists a prior role as executive vice president at Westwin Elements, a metal refining company, according to projects.propublica.

Wischer earned his bachelor’s degree in international business from Boise State University and a master’s in security studies from Georgetown University, according to newlinesinstitute. He interned for Rep. Russ Fulcher, an Idaho Republican, from May 2019 to August 2019, according to legistorm. University records show a student named Greg Wischer competed for the Boise State men’s tennis team as a Mountain West Scholar Athlete and Honors College member, according to broncosports.

The statement Trump posted describes ongoing National Park Service work rather than a completed reopening. Wischer wrote that crews partially refilled the pool and began flushing the piping system for the first time in more than a decade. He said the National Park Service cleaned the granite, pressure washed the sidewalk and removed several trees, and that the site will open in a few weeks. The post does not specify an exact reopening date.
