Trump Says Strong Jobs Data Should Lift Stocks, Blasts Market Drop
Trump argues that growth does not cause inflation and criticizes a 25-year pattern he says drives markets down when economic data looks strong.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald J. Trump argued that strong jobs data should send stocks higher, and he blamed a decades-old fear of inflation for the opposite result.
Trump wrote that positive job numbers should push equities up because the country’s credit and economy are stronger. Instead, he said, the market declines under what he called a “False Reality.” He said the pattern has held for 25 years, driven by a belief that good conditions must be curbed to prevent inflation.
“GROWTH DOES NOT CAUSE INFLATION!” Trump wrote. He said the United States should post GDP of 15% and 20% rather than 2%, 3% and 4%. He said the country could pay off its debt if it abandoned the theory that a strong economy must be slowed.
Here is the full post on truthsocial: “How crazy is this? We just got GREAT Numbers on Jobs, the Market should go UP, because our Credit and Economy are better but, as always, for the past 25 years, the Stock Market goes DOWN, because we’re living under False Reality that if things are good, you’ve got to ”KILL IT“ because of a ”fear“ of Inflation. It should be the opposite, and always was until 25 years ago. If we stay with this Theory, we will never be able to have the True Economic Greatness for our Country that it deserves, because every time we do well, the stupid people want to immediately stop this Great Upward Momentum. GROWTH DOES NOT CAUSE INFLATION! I knew this morning as soon as I looked at these fantastic Job Numbers that the Market would go down when it should be going UP like a Rocketship. We should be doing GDP of 15 and 20%, not 2, 3, and 4%, and America should become Far Greater Financially than it is right now. Our Debt would be paid off, and all of these other things would happen. Remember, every point in the Interest Rate costs the U.S. 650 Billion Dollars a year. We should pay the Lowest Interest Rates in the World because we make everything run, and give otherwise failed countries Great Economic Wealth! Thank you for your attention to this matter. Trump” on September 4, 2026 at 12:30 PM ET.
This is Trump’s 7th message released today, and the last post was 23 minutes ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 28 of his 620 posts over the last 30 days classified as Economy posts.

Trump said in the post that every point in the interest rate costs the United States $650 billion a year, and that the country should pay the lowest interest rates in the world. He tied that claim to his argument that the market misreads strong economic signals. Those figures come from Trump’s post and stand as his claims.
Markets often move on emotion, and prices can swing when investors react to information that is not accurate, according to finance.yahoo. A false report during a tariff dispute once sent markets spiking nearly 10%, or $2.4 trillion in value, before the rally faded and the S&P 500 closed largely flat, according to finance.yahoo. A separate shock tied to the Chinese startup DeepSeek drove a $593 billion single-day drop for chipmaker Nvidia, according to finance.yahoo.
Deceptive financial articles can temporarily lift stock prices for small firms before those gains reverse, according to insights.som.yale.edu. Researchers found that stock prices of small companies rose an average of 7% over six months after fake news appeared and then dropped, according to insights.som.yale.edu. The finding shows how information, accurate or not, can shape short-term market behavior.
The phrase “False Reality” that Trump used also names a London-based hardcore band formed in 2023, according to hasslerecords. The band shares no connection to the economic argument in the post.
