Trump Shares Video Attacking California Truck-Driver Licensing
Trump amplifies a video claiming California waived background checks and testing for 45,000 commercial licenses, and that Sean Duffy moved to end the practice.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald J. Trump shared a video on Truth Social featuring a speaker who described unqualified drivers operating semi trucks in California’s San Joaquin Valley.
Here is the full post on truthsocial: “It was a big secret here in the San San Joaquin Valley that there was a lot of people who should not be driving semi trucks. Yeah. Because I go to truck stops. I drive every week to Stanford 200 mi (about 322 kilometers) until I was ill from hit my farm and I would stop at rest stops. Sometimes I would cost a fruter sometimes stay and I would see these truckers speaking foreign languages. And then I would see them on the road and they were driving in the left not just the center lane but the left lane. Oh god. You know I going down Pacheco Pass and it’s 50 mi (about 80.5 kilometers) an hour and it goes down to 35 for a truck and they were going 70 on the downhill curve. And then I would read about all these wrecks and then I would see them go by my house 70 mi (about 113 kilometers) an hour in a rural road. So I cut started talking to a lot of my Indian friends off the record and they would say we’re getting people from Mexico they come from India they go come across the border they will drive a semi truck for six $15 an hour. Right. And I thought well how did they get a license and they smile and then to get a California driver’s license you have to be 21 a professional license 21 you have to take a 4-hour written test you have to take a 2-hour actual driving in-person test but before you do that you have to have be a citizen you have to have a background check and you have to have a physical and all of that was waived for in 45,000 cases and they had interstate abilities once they had that license. And Trump all of a sudden you know Sean Duffy said that’s over we’re not doing that anymore we’re going to we’re going to shut down I don’t know what it was 200 driving schools and everybody said it’s racist but that’s what I mean by a counter revolution he’s trying to do it’s you know it’s trying to shut this down immediately.” on September 24, 2026 at 8:21 AM ET.
This is Trump’s 5th message released today, and the last post was 1 minute ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 82 of his 531 posts over the last 30 days classified as image-only posts.
The speaker claimed background checks, citizenship requirements, physicals, a four-hour written test and a two-hour in-person driving test were waived in 45,000 cases. Those license holders then gained interstate driving ability, the speaker said. The account described truckers speaking foreign languages, driving in the left lane, and traveling at 70 miles (about 113 kilometers) per hour on the downhill curve of Pacheco Pass, and attributed the drivers to workers crossing the border for pay as low as $15 an hour.
The video credited Sean Duffy with ending the practice and moving to shut down about 200 driving schools. The speaker framed the effort as part of what the speaker called a counter revolution. Trump added no written commentary to the shared post.
