Trump says he approved two of the largest battleships ever built
Trump claims in a Truth Social video that he approved a Navy plan for two new battleships he calls the fastest, biggest and 100 times more powerful than any built before.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald J. Trump said he approved a plan for the U.S. Navy to build two new battleships he described as the largest ever constructed.
Trump made the claim in a video, saying the vessels would carry “100 times” the power of past battleships and rank as the fastest and biggest ever built. He named the Iowa, the Missouri, the Wisconsin and the Alabama as earlier ships he cited for comparison.
Here is the full post on truthsocial: “As commander in chief it’s my great honor to announce that I have approved a plan for the Navy to begin the construction of two brand new very large, the largest we’ve ever built battleships. You know, you used to build the Iowa, the Missouri, the Wisconsin, the Alabama, many others. We had big battleships. These are bigger, but they will have 100 times the um they’ll be 100 times the force, the power and uh there’s never been anything like these ships. These have been under design consideration for a long time and it started with me in my first term because I said, “Why aren’t we doing battleships like we used to?” And the uh these are the best in the world. They’ll be the fastest, the biggest, and by far 100 times more powerful than any battleship ever built. So so if you look at the Iowa, the Missouri, Wisconsin, Alabama, and others, but they’re they were similar in size, some a little bit bigger than the others, but if you take the biggest one, it’s 100 times more powerful. Uh they’re longer by a little bit, but uh the and they’re bigger, they’re bigger ships, but they hold much more. They use the word lethality.” on September 14, 2026 at 11:53 PM ET.

Trump said the ships had been “under design consideration for a long time” and traced the idea to his first term, when he questioned why the country no longer builds battleships. He said the new vessels would be longer than the earlier ships and would “hold much more,” using the word “lethality” to describe their capability.
