— Donald J. Trump shared a video on Truth Social contrasting economic figures from his second year in office with those from Joe Biden‘s, claiming lower inflation and rising incomes under his administration.

The video compares the first half of each president’s second year, January to July. It states overall inflation ran 12% under Biden and 4% under Trump, with groceries up 16% under Biden versus a little over 3% under Trump. Gas rose almost 70% under Biden and about 12% under Trump, while new and used car prices climbed nearly 24% under Biden and fell under Trump, the video says.

The segment features a host and Heritage Foundation economist E.J. Antoni, who argues that consumers care about price levels more than the pace of increases. “At the end of the day, consumers don’t as much care about the inflation rate, which is the pace at which prices are increasing,” Antoni said in the video. “What they really care about are the levels of prices.”

The video also cites federal income and poverty data. Real median household income topped $80,000 last year, the highest level on record, according to the Census Bureau. Poverty fell another half point last year to just over 10%, which the segment describes as a historic low, according to the Census Bureau.

Antoni said the average American’s weekly paycheck, adjusted for inflation, shrank 4% under Biden and rose 2% during Trump’s first year. He said many Americans have not regained ground lost to earlier price increases, framing recent gains against inflation that built up over the prior four years.
