Trump Touts August Jobs Report Showing 162,000 Gain and Manufacturing Rebound
Trump shares a White House release claiming the U.S. economy added 162,000 jobs in August, nearly triple economists' expectations, driven by manufacturing and construction.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald J. Trump promoted a White House release claiming the U.S. economy added 162,000 jobs in August, nearly triple economists’ expectations.
The release said the private sector has created more than one million jobs in Trump’s second term, framing the gain as the second-largest monthly total of that term, according to whitehouse.gov. Manufacturers added 16,000 jobs last month, described as the strongest monthly gain in three years, and 58,000 jobs this year, according to whitehouse.gov. Construction added 22,000 jobs, with factory construction jobs up nearly 100,000 in the second term, according to whitehouse.gov.

This is Trump’s 14th message released today, and the last post was 1 minute ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 29 of his 626 posts over the last 30 days classified as Economy posts.
The White House attributed the gains to its reindustrialization agenda by mentioning the source (see whitehouse.gov). Factory hiring drew on demand for pharmaceutical and defense production, data center construction, and semiconductor plants, according to whitehouse.gov. Federal employment remains at its lowest share of the workforce on record, the release said, according to whitehouse.gov.

The release cited wage and labor-force figures alongside the headline number. Private-sector workers saw average weekly earnings rise 3.7% over the year, according to whitehouse.gov. Labor force participation increased at its strongest level in almost a year, while college graduate unemployment held at 2.7% and black unemployment posted its second monthly decline, according to whitehouse.gov.
“America added 162,000 jobs in August — triple economists’ expectations,” White House spokesman Kush Desai said in the release, according to whitehouse.gov. “The private sector has now created over one million jobs under President Trump, whose reindustrialization agenda continues to drive manufacturing and factory construction job growth.” Desai added that the country is “in the middle of a historic investment boom” and that “the best is yet to come,” according to whitehouse.gov.
The release gathered reactions from economists and analysts. National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett called it “a really blockbuster number” and tied hiring to tariffs and expensing incentives, according to whitehouse.gov. Council of Economic Advisers Chair Chris Phelan said “the manufacturing boom — the non-residential construction boom — is real, and it’s showing up in the data,” according to whitehouse.gov. Fitch Ratings Head of U.S. Economics Olu Sonola called it “an unequivocally strong report,” while Navy Federal Credit Union Chief Economist Heather Long described it as a “wow” jobs report, according to whitehouse.gov.
The White House listed the August release among a run of recent economic announcements. The Trump administration published a release August 31, 2026, on manufacturing gains in Michigan and a fact sheet the same day on a drug-pricing deal with nine additional pharmaceutical manufacturers, according to presidency.ucsb.edu. The administration also issued a release September 2, 2026, on what it called the biggest oil deal in world history, according to presidency.ucsb.edu.
