Trump touts TrumpRx drug savings six months after launch

Trump the federal platform has cut listed prices 33% to 93% and drawn 12 million visitors, with the Council of Economic Advisers projecting $600 billion in savings over a decade.

The platform, TrumpRx.gov, launched in February 2026 as a government website that lets Americans buy dozens of high-cost brand-name drugs directly from manufacturers at lower prices according to whitehouse.gov. The savings rest on Most-Favored-Nation pricing agreements that tie U.S. costs to the lowest price paid in comparable developed nations according to whitehouse.gov.

Americans have long paid more than other developed nations for identical medications, and the platform aims to close that gap by cutting out middlemen. As of early June, prescription drug prices were down 2.4 percent since the launch, including a 0.9 percent reduction in May alone according to amac.us. Two weeks after launch the site had drawn 12 million visitors and generated an estimated $500 million in consumer savings according to amac.us.

“clear, transparent, and DISCOUNTED offerings for FOUR OUT OF FIVE of every prescription filled by Americans,” Trump said in an earlier Truth Social post describing the platform, according to amac.us.

The Council of Economic Advisers estimates the initiative could generate approximately $600 billion in savings over the next decade according to amac.us. That projected figure rivals the annual budgets of several mid-sized states and dwarfs typical drug-pricing reforms.

The stakes fall hardest on patients who pay out-of-pocket for medications not fully covered by insurance. Discounts on the platform range from 33 to 93 percent off list prices, depending on the medication according to amac.us. The monthly price of Ozempic drops from $1,028 to as low as $199, while the injectable Wegovy falls from $1,349 to an average of $350 according to whitehouse.gov. Fertility patients stand to save more than $2,000 per cycle, with Gonal-F falling to as low as $168 per pen according to whitehouse.gov. Pharmaceutical middlemen, insurers, and pharmacy benefit managers stand to lose margin as more patients bypass them.

For the average U.S. reader, the platform means a person facing a $300 monthly brand-name bill could print a coupon and pay a fraction of that at the counter. Patients report the process takes effort, and not every drug is listed yet.

Has this happened before? A federal website selling discounted brand-name drugs directly to consumers has not existed at this scale before. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz announced in June an expansion adding 160 drug listings, bringing the total to roughly 750 medications according to amac.us.

The next decision rests with Congress, which Trump has urged to pass his Great Healthcare Plan to codify the Most-Favored-Nation savings and extend them to insured patients according to whitehouse.gov. No date for a congressional vote has been announced.

Government efforts to force down drug prices have surfaced before. In 2020, Trump signed a Most-Favored-Nation executive order tying Medicare payments to foreign prices, but a federal court blocked the rule in December 2020, and the Biden administration rescinded it in 2021. Earlier, the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 barred the government from directly negotiating drug prices, a restriction that stood for two decades until the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act allowed limited negotiation on 10 drugs. Each earlier attempt met legal or legislative resistance that slowed the promised relief for patients.
