— Donald J. Trump said his former personal attorney Michael Cohen fully recanted his testimony in the New York cases against him and called for those cases to be dismissed. Trump framed the claim as vindication and thanked Cohen for stepping forward, in a post attributed to his Truth Social account.

Here is the full post on truthsocial: “I am pleased to report that Michael Cohen, the Prosecution’s Star Witness and, in actuality, only Witness in the New York State Attorney General and Manhattan DA Witch Hunt Cases brought against me, has just fully RECANTED his testimony. He was “pressured” and “coerced” to say things that were not true. I would like to thank Michael for having the Wisdom and Courage to step forward and do the right thing! His Act of Bravery is a Great Credit to the Justice System in New York City and State. I am sure it was not easy for him! Now we are asking that any remnant of those Politically Weaponized Cases against me be immediately terminated and dismissed. Their Star Witness said everything they did was WRONG and UNLAWFUL!Letitia James and Alvin Bragg broke the Law in order to do this in order to prevent me from becoming the President of the United States. Such a thing can never be allowed to happen again! Thank you for your attention to this matter. Trump” on September 4, 2026 at 12:35 PM ET.

This is Trump’s 10th message released today, and the last post came moments ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 42 of his 623 posts over the last 30 days classified as Legal posts.

Michael Cohen is Trump’s former lawyer and self-described “fixer” who spent a decade in Trump’s inner circle before flipping to become one of his most vocal critics, according to abcnews. Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison in 2018 after pleading guilty to campaign finance charges and lying to Congress, and his 2024 testimony helped pave the way for Trump’s criminal conviction on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, according to pbs.

In a January 16 Substack post, Cohen accused New York Attorney General Letitia James and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of forcing him to testify against Trump, writing that he “felt compelled and coerced to deliver what they were seeking,” according to nypost. During an August radio-show reunion, Trump told Cohen, “They weaponized a lot of people, and I respect the fact that you recanted everything you said,” according to nbcnews. Asked on CNN whether he was taking back what he had said about Trump, Cohen responded, “What was said is said, and that’s where I stand with it,” according to nbcnews.
