Trump praised Andrew Ferguson, vice chairman of the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, and Vice President JD Vance for their work targeting government fraud, in a post on Truth Social. Trump credited the task force with putting pressure on fraudsters, recovering money and pursuing prison sentences. He singled out a Fox News interview conducted by Charlie Hurt as the occasion for his praise.

Ferguson manages both the trade commission and the daily activities of the task force according to cbsnews. JD Vance, the vice president of the United States, chairs the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud. Trump signed an executive order on March 16, 2026 to create the task force, which Vance leads according to thenationaldesk. Vance joined the president in the Oval Office for the signing of the order, which highlighted fraud in Minnesota and other states according to thenationaldesk. “What this executive order does is force the entire apparatus of the federal government to do two things,” Vance said according to thenationaldesk. “Stop the fraud of the American taxpayer, and make sure that the benefits that ought, by right, go to American citizens, go to American citizens, and not to fraudsters.” The task force will search for welfare abuses in California and other states according to cbsnews. Stephen Miller, the White House homeland security advisor, estimated the task force could return billions of dollars to American taxpayers according to thecentersquare. The effort targets high-risk programs like SNAP benefits, student loans and small business loans, along with Medicare and Medicaid fraud according to foxnews. The anti-fraud effort has executed search warrants, secured prison sentences and removed 800 questionable providers from Medicare according to foxnews. The United States loses about $250 billion to fraud each year but recovers only about $10 billion according to foxnews.
