Trump says U.S. and Iran are ‘getting along very well’ as Diplomatic Talks show signs of progress
After months of tensions, President Donald Trump says Washington and Tehran are making progress on talks aimed at easing regional tensions and advancing a peace framework.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said the U.S. and Iran are “getting along very well”—what a sign of hope this could be for the two long-standing rivals. Throughout the years, there has been tension between Washington and Tehran, but Trump’s remarks suggested reconciliation for U.S.-Iranian diplomacy again.
Trump told reporters that Washington had been having “good” communications with longtime enemy Tehran in recent days, to ease tensions between the two. Those comments also came in the wake of increasing worries regarding Iran’s nuclear program and Middle East security.
He told reporters that his administration is now preparing to engage in “old school” conflict efforts “with Iran through negotiation.” Both countries would need constant diplomatic activity to be secure and to have a lasting peace, analysts said.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also indicated willingness to talks. But Iranian authorities have time and time again stated that meaningful progress requires respect for Iran’s sovereignty, and the lifting of U.S. sanctions.
Since the 1979 Iranian Revolution, relations between the United States and Iran have been unstable. Tensions have been running high between both countries over their nuclear program and regional influence, with clashes occurring on several occasions, and economic sanctions have kept them on the edge of the picket line.
Trump’s comments could open the door for another round of diplomacy, analysts say. All Middle East governments are looking for stability and want to avoid a wider war, fearing that another conflict in the region could upend world energy markets and threaten regional security.
However, with the more positive tone, there is still a lot that is not going well. The nuclear issue on Iran and economic sanctions have been a hot button in negotiations, causing friction. All the past negotiations between Washington and Tehran have failed to come to fruition, and analysts have suggested that any lasting deal will need concessions from both parties and patience.
The talks are seen as potentially a new chapter in Washington and Tehran’s diplomatic relationship, with Trump’s remarks giving a fresh boost to hope in this regard. Despite these efforts, however, both sides have admitted that there are still major challenges to overcome on the way to a comprehensive and durable agreement.
