— Donald J. Trump released the first interior renderings of a new ballroom at the White House, calling the nearly $400 million project free of charge to taxpayers, on budget and ahead of schedule.

The images depict a gilded, neoclassical hall funded by private donations, a project that has drawn lawsuits from preservation groups and a Supreme Court intervention allowing construction to continue. Trump has said the ballroom will cost close to $400 million, paid for by private donors and corporations, according to euronews.

This is Trump’s 8th message released today, and the last post was 1 hour ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 66 of his 594 posts over the last 30 days classified as Domestic Policy posts.

The renderings show an ornate interior with a coffered, gilded ceiling, rows of crystal chandeliers, white columns with gold accents, polished marble floors and large windows. The images are computer-generated architectural visualizations of a proposed design, not photographs of a finished space.

The project has grown since Trump first announced it. Plans revealed a 90,000-square-foot structure able to seat 650 people, a significant increase on the 200-seat capacity of the East Room in the main residence, according to bbc. The estimate doubled from an initial $200 million to about $400 million, and the proposals expanded to include a rooftop drone port, an underground hospital and top-secret military facilities, according to bbc.

The funding claim has been contested. Trump said the project would be privately funded when it was officially announced on July 31 at an estimated $200 million, later maintaining, “This is taxpayer-free. We have no taxpayer putting up 10 cents,” according to factcheck. Congressional Republicans proposed public funds for security features tied to the site after the April 25 shooting during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, according to factcheck.

The construction reached the courts. The National Trust for Historic Preservation, a nonprofit that protects historically significant sites, sued in December 2025, arguing the project required approval from Congress, according to wallpaper. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit moved to block the work, writing that “Each President is a temporary tenant, not the owner, of the White House and its Executive Residence,” according to wallpaper.
