Trump Ties AI and Data Center Critics to What He Calls a Climate Change “Hoax”
Trump claims critics warning that artificial intelligence and data centers pose dangers are the same people who once warned about climate change, which he calls a hoax that never materialized.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald J. Trump linked critics of artificial intelligence and data centers to what he calls a discredited climate movement, framing both as threats driven by people working against the interests of the United States.

The post arrived as Trump pushed back against calls by technology leaders for greater government oversight of artificial intelligence. Trump said he would be a sufficient guardrail against rogue AI, claiming that any effort to limit the technology was part of a “SICK conspiracy,” according to wral. He wrote that “The only control or “guardrails” that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!” according to wral. Trump also said the administration had already stopped the AI company Anthropic“from doing bad, or potentially bad” things, according to wral.

The climate comparison echoes positions Trump has held for years. At the United Nations in September 2025, he called carbon footprint “a hoax” and told world leaders that “windmills are pathetic,” according to news.un. He argued that “if you don’t get away from the green energy scam your country is going to fail,” according to news.un. His administration in February 2026 revoked a scientific finding that climate change endangers public health, a step Trump described as “a scam,” according to Public Broadcasting Service.
Scientific research points the other way on the health question. A study in the JAMA journal found yearly heat-related deaths in the United States more than doubled from 1,069 in 1999 to 2,325 in 2023, according to Public Broadcasting Service.
