Trump Says Russia Has Lost Control of Its Diesel Industry Amid Ukraine War
Trump claims Russian refineries have been knocked out by the war and urges an end to a conflict he says kills 25,000 people a month.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald J. Trump said Russia has lost control of its diesel oil industry as its war with Ukraine drags on, blaming attacks that he said have knocked refineries offline.
A large number of Russian diesel refineries have been blown up and are at least temporarily out of commission, Trump said in the post. He renewed a call to end a conflict he described as ridiculous and never ending.
“This ridiculous and never ending War with Ukraine must be ended,” Trump said, adding that the whole world suffers as 25,000 people, mostly soldiers, are killed each month.
The post ties the fighting to a broader energy shock that has reached American consumers, a theme running through recent coverage of the war’s fuel-market fallout.

This is Trump’s 5th message released today, and the last post was 10 minutes ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 63 of his 549 posts over the last 30 days classified as Foreign Policy posts.
Ukraine’s rising success in targeting Russia’s refining network with long-distance drone attacks has become the biggest growing energy impact of the war, according to fortune. An estimated 40% of Russia’s oil-refining infrastructure is now offline, and Russia has cut off its diesel exports, removing about 3% of daily global diesel supplies from markets, according to fortune.
Moscow moved to protect its own supply as the strikes intensified. Russia introduced a ban on diesel exports as part of measures to support the domestic fuel market after systematic Ukrainian drone attacks on oil refineries triggered gasoline shortages and price spikes, according to theguardian. Drivers in many regions faced hours-long lines to refuel, and Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told a televised government meeting chaired by President Vladimir Putin that the fuel situation remained complex, according to theguardian.
The fallout reaches American drivers and shoppers. The average price of diesel fuel in the U.S. reached an all-time high of $5.85 per gallon, while regular unleaded gasoline hit $4.14 a gallon, according to fortune. Higher diesel prices raise supply-chain costs that increase the price of groceries, household goods and deliveries, according to fortune.
