Trump Calls AI Danger a Hoax, Blasts Google’s Finland Data Plant Plan
Trump says AI safety fears are a hoax, praises Xi's hands-off stance and criticizes Google for eyeing Finland over U.S. permitting hurdles, calling data centers the greatest economic engine in history.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald J. Trump dismissed warnings about artificial intelligence as a hoax and pressed for lighter regulation of the fast-growing sector. Trump framed the technology as the largest economic driver in history and criticized industry leaders who have urged caution.
Trump said calls for strict rules would push companies into bankruptcy, comparing AI fears to earlier controversies he has long labeled hoaxes. Trump also singled out GOOGLE LLC®, saying the company wants to build a plant in Finland because it finds U.S. permitting too difficult.

The AI Action Plan states that America’s environmental permitting system and other regulations make it almost impossible to build such infrastructure in the United States with the speed that is required, according to arnoldporter. Energy infrastructure developers have advocated for permitting reform for decades, and tech companies have now entered the arena as new players, according to arnoldporter.
The executive order directs agencies to launch an initiative providing federal financial support to qualifying data center projects, according to arnoldporter. The order directs the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to expedite permitting by developing or modifying regulations under the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act, among other statutes, according to arnoldporter. It continues federal encouragement of siting projects on brownfield and Superfund sites and on federal lands, according to arnoldporter.
Trump said data centers and AI would rank as a bigger engine than oil, gold, diamonds, or the internet, and vowed the sector would not be stopped during his term. The next steps on permitting rest with the federal agencies named in the executive order, though no date for further action was announced in the allowed materials.
